CLASSIC SOUNDTRACKS VOL. 1
Spindrift’s new full-length is a soon-to-be classic concept album collection of what the band has always done best and in vibrant rich recording sonics. THE WEST
A concept record exploring the United States’ age of expansion. Spindrift’s love of absurdity is less of a surprise when you learn members of Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Warlocks are involved. The eight-piece have already released a film soundtrack, The Legend of God’s Gun, and the building blocks of The West are similarly cinematic. “Ace Coltrane” and “The New West” both sound like pastiches of Calexico tracks. Though a spaghetti western theme runs throughout, various other retro influences are also prevalent. “The Wind” is seven minutes of druggy, bluesy rock’n’roll, while “A Celebration of the Human Body” features echoes of ’60s pysch folk. The West moves into new territory every few seconds but it is well worth the ride. – Exclaim.ca

Legend of God’s Gun

Both haunting and hallucinogenic, “The Legend of God’s Gun” soundtrack takes the listener on a cosmic journey through the desert as a preacher-turned-gunslinger sets out for vengeance. With a guitar in one hand and six-shooter in the other, neo-cosmic cowboy Kirpatrick Thomas and his band of banditos resurrect the spirits of Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai and combines them with the ghosts of Velvet Underground and Jim Morrison, weaving a dusty backdrop to a story of sin and salvation in the wild wild west. – Tee Pee Records
